STF-Sustaining The Future

Sustaining the Future at Polk Academy of Agricultural Science

Polk Academy of Agricultural Science is part of Albuquerque Public Schools’ Sustaining the Future Environmental STEM Magnet Pathway, where middle school students explore sustainability, agriculture, and environmental science through hands-on learning.

Students investigate food systems, water conservation, soil health, and ecosystems while working on real projects connected to the agricultural heritage of Albuquerque’s South Valley. Learning connects science, math, literacy, and environmental problem solving through inquiry-based experiences.

Polk also offers a Dual Language Academy in English and Spanish, helping students build bilingual skills while studying environmental STEM topics.

Through AVID college-readiness programming, students develop organization, collaboration, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for success in high school and beyond.

Polk Academy prepares students for the next step in the pathway at Rio Grande High School’s Environmental STEM program.

K-12 Pathway includes Los Padillas Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Polk Middle School, Rio Grande High School
